Dear Region I Members,
I believe that anyone who attended the 2011 Regional Conference will agree that it was great!
As promised, this month’s newsletter will focus on the highlights of the conference.
What a surprise to be entertained by “Mummers” at the Welcome Party! Who even knew who Mummers were? But I do now, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
There was much education offered on Friday – from NAIW Courses to Equipment Breakdown! And then we moved to the first Business Meeting. Okay, so we exhausted everyone, but I’m very pleased to say that Region I’s bylaws have been totally updated and will soon be submitted to Corporate Centre! Once that is done I will be distributing to all the Council Directors and requesting them to distribute to Local Presidents and down to the overall membership. In addition to the updated bylaws we now have Standing Rules!! So I thank you Region I for your patience, as this was one of my goals for this term!
The CWC Speak-off took place on Saturday morning. What an exciting time with 6 participants and Patti Gagne entertaining us with her “Religious Golf” jokes! Congratulations to Rob Berger, winner of the Region I CWC Speak-off! Rob will be representing Region I at the International Convention in June.
We then moved into the second business meeting with much discussion regarding the proposed name change. The final vote was 21 for, 22 against, moving the proposed amendment to the floor of International Convention.
Our delegate to the International Nominating Committee is Donna Liro, NAIW-RI and Alternate is Linda Wilson – NAIW Cumberland-Salem. Yours truly was voted in for another year as RVP --- I can’t wait!
The Awards luncheon followed, which is always an exciting time! Page 2 of this newsletter lists all the winners! The Saturday night banquet was terrific – typical Region I – the dance floor was packed! We quietly ended on Sunday morning with the memorial service and closing remarks.
I hope to see many of you at International Convention in June (Las Vegas, here we come!) and don’t forget about Mini-Board (July 29-31) in Williamsport, PA and of course Regional Convention 2012 in Newport, RI!
And now for the winners……. Unfortunately space does not allow for me to list all the Runners Up and the Award Winners – but I congratulate you all! I hope to see many, many more award and scholarship applications for 2012!
