The Capitol of Connecticut -Hartford is located in Hartford County. The area once was explored by Dutch fur traders. It was settled by Massachusetts colonists. As one of the earliest and strongest colonial centers, it was an important military supply depot during the American Revolution. Landmarks include the old statehouse, 1796, where the Hartford Convention met, and the site of the famous Travelers Insurance tower. The city's many parks include Elizabeth Park, scene of an annual rose festival, and Coltsville, former home of the Colt Firearms factory and Samuel Colt's estate.

President’s Message for February 2012

Dear Members-

February is here and while things may be quiet after the holidays, it’s a busy time for HAIW. If you were at our February meeting you know that our nominating committee is hard at work putting together a slate of officers for our 2012-13 year. At the same time, our Industry Night Committee is working on plans for our annual event in April. Our Public Relations chairperson Sandi is working on a request for marketing funds from IAIP, so that we can, among other things, purchase a banner and color brochures to use at the various events we participate in throughout the year. No matter the time of year there is always something interesting going on at HAIW.

This month is also our annual “speed-networking event”. This event is a fun way to get to know your fellow members and vendors. It is also a great time to bring some guests with you to introduce them to HAIW. I hope that you will all come, bring your business cards and some friends, and prepare to make new contacts and renew old acquaintances.

March is the time for the Regional Conference in Newport, Rhode Island. The registration form and conference information is on the website, and I encourage you to read it and consider attending the conference. There is a full day of CE credits, as well as the business meetings; award presentations and the Confidence While Communicating speak off. It’s an exciting time and I hope that you can join us.

HAIW and NAIW dba IAIP serve its members by providing professional education, an environment in which to build business alliances, and the opportunity to make connections with people of differing career paths and levels of experience within the Insurance Industry.

Welcome to the HAIW website. HAIW is a local association of NAIW, dba International,Association of Insurance Professionals, with members in all lines of insurance. We meet the second Tuesday of the month from September through May at restaurants and other facilities located in the greater Hartford area. Each month we have networking, a guest speaker and a short business meeting. HAIW offers all members the opportunity to participate in Educational Programs, Community Activities and Projects, Safety Programs, Networking and leadership development opportunities.
